Smart locks are one of the most common upgrades we install in Irvine, Laguna Niguel and Mission Viejo. The right one depends on your HOA, your Wi-Fi and how your family comes and goes.
Start with your HOA
Many HOAs control the look of front doors. Check the approved finishes before you buy. Most popular smart locks come in several finishes, and the inside part is what holds the electronics, so the outside can still look traditional.
Keypad, app or both
A keypad is easy for kids, cleaners and guests: give each a code and delete it later. App control lets you lock and unlock from anywhere and see who came in. Many families want both.
Wi-Fi or Bluetooth
Bluetooth-only locks work when you are near the door. For remote access you need Wi-Fi built in or a small bridge. If your router is far from the front door, a bridge or a mesh access point near the entry helps.
Batteries and backups
Most smart locks run on regular batteries for several months and warn you when they run low. Choose a model with a physical key or an emergency power option, so a dead battery never locks you out.
Installation
We install the lock, line up the bolt so it does not drain batteries by fighting the strike, set up the app on your phone and add the codes you want.
